Apple Picking...Grrrrrr

Today we went apple picking with Erin and Josh. We hadn’t hung out with them in a really long time so I was hoping it would be fun. Well I was wrong. I had told Meghan that we should invite her sister and Mom to come along. I wanted to give them a chance to be part of the boy’s first apple picking experience at Lynds since it was big thing in their family. Her sister was not able to go for a reason I can’t recall and her Mom said sure.

At the very last minute she called to say she was not going because she has stuff to do. I was really annoyed and angrier more than anything. I feel like when the boys are young and doing things for the first time everyone should want to be a part of that. Maybe I am just being a selfish parent who thinks everyone should care about their kids all the time, but I think this was something important and shouldn’t be missed. Maybe I’m wrong. I guess what really frustrates me the most is that my parents live out of state and don’t get to experience little things like this with the boys. I know if they had the chance they would jump at the opportunity to go.

So then I was mad and worked up. Josh and Erin showed up and they kind of, ok, they took the full brunt of me being mad. I had everything packed ready to go, room for the mom in law and 2 cameras the video cameras. Now she’s not going and we end up leaving late and if you know me I grew up being forced to be on time and it really messes me up when we get of track. We get there and it’s hotter than I expected. The sun is bright, the apples are little, can’t takes pictures of the boys and M, and video all at the same time so I was just staying mad and not really enjoying the whole thing. Did I mention I hadn’t eaten lunch either!

Sop we picked some apples, got some cider and I managed to have a good time minus the fact I didn’t get to get all the video and pictures I wanted. I felt bad because the pictures of M did not turn out. Summy sat in a tree. Jack picked a little apple for himself and all was well for the boys. Now we have to use them up before the rot….like every other year. We did buy less to make sure that didn’t happen, but we are a little busier than we have been in years past.

Sick Day/Work from Home Day 2

I am now on Day two of being at home sick and working with the boys. So this morning when M got them up and noticed blood on jacks headrest. Obviously being concerned I took another day of off/working from home to take him back to the doctor. So M schedules the appointment and I take him into the office. Two things that annoyed me about the whole thing were:

(1) The nurse actually said to her, we just saw him yesterday and what would we be seeing him for now. She replied he has dried blood all over his ear and in his ear canal. To which she replied, “We’ll see you at 9:00.”

(B) (Yeah I know 1 then B, M will get it.) I took them back to the doctor and they’re all like hey how are doing, welcome back , nice to see, making a habit out of this, is jack still sick….now gimme another copay. Annoying because after seeing the doctor, she tells us this is a common thing after pulling anything out of a baby’s ear. You’re free to go. So I asked her the best way to clean out his bloodied ear and what to do. She asked me if I wanted the nurse to do it and I said yes…I did pay a copy. Not think they probably billed the insurance like $400 for some inner ear canal cleaning or some crap. At least Jack is fine and no harm was done. Maybe it would have been nice to tell me ahead of time that I could expect my kid’s ear to be draining blood in the morning.

Sick Day/Work from Home

This morning Jack woke up sounding pretty bad. He was very stuffy and would snort when his passy was in his mouth. It was actually kind of funny. So I took a partial sick day/work from home day to take him to the doctor. We went to the doctor and he is fine. Nothing but a cold and there is really nothing you can do for him. The doctor pulled a chunk of earwax out of his ear. He didn’t like that too much but he was fine the rest of the day. He and Summy both spent a good chunk of the day sleeping. They just napped really well. It allowed me to get a nice chunk of work done.

Work has been very busy with negotiations within my client’s population. The end of the year is always busy and this year is extra bad. We have all three of our populations making year end changes so it’s keeping me busy. One downfall is we usually have to travel to support the changes. They had asked to go from Columbus to Toledo, then Phoenix, then New York, the Pittsburgh and the Delaware, then Indy and back home. Thankfully my boss said no to all the travel. Good thing because I was not looking forward to being away from the boys. I do have to travel twice and they are both day trips with in 3 hour drive one way. Sweet….

7 months and growing

So the boys turned 7 months old and it’s been forever since I made any blog updates. Mainly because of the time crunch from spending time with them, time at work and family illness, I have not been good about posting. Even when I have the time I spent it doing other things.

The boys are great. I love them more and more each day. The best time of my whole day is coming home to M and the boys. They always get so excited to see me. Summy laughs everyday. He has this laugh chuckle that he does every time I see him. I was always a little worried that they would somehow forget who I was while I was away. So I was very protective of my time with them in the beginning. Now I know they remember their dad no matter.

My favorite thing right now is too tickle Jack and pretends like I am eating him. He gets so worked up and laughs. When he really gets going he has a high pitch squeal. It’s great! He is also the more mobile of the two right now. He can roll back and forth to pretty much get where he needs to be. This includes rolling right off the bed several times. Thank goodness there have been no injuries. Also, he is so stubborn. M and I are trying to figure out which one he got it from or if it is a combo of both. He certainly has a determination to get what he wants or where he feels he needs to be.

Summy in the other hand likes to lay back. He seems more relaxed but don’t be fooled he can’t be ignored. Whenever I am playi9ng with Jack he gets a look on his face that is priceless. You can tell he is jealous or feels left out. After discovering his hand a few months ago, he has found his index finger in the last few days. It’s the funniest thing he does right now. He points at all kinds of things and talks to his finger. I wish he were actually pointing but he is just moving it all around. He also loves to fly. We pretend he is flying and he gets the biggest smile on his face. Combine that with his juperoo and the kid is living the good live.

M continues to astonish me as the best wife ever. She is so protective and even though I worry that she worries too much, I know she has the best interest if the boys at heart. The transition of her back to work went better than expected. She held up pretty well for the first few days with no major freak outs. We continue to work to find a good balance between napping and feeding at the babysitter. Maybe we are over reacting or just focusing too much on this because we have been laid back or what but the boys are definitely in place where they are safe and loved. Recently, M has had some late nights for curriculum night last week and I got to play Mr. Mom. It was fun to be able to feed them their solids as I only get limited chances to feed them now with the schedules. Oh BTW, they started solids. Early favs are green beans and pears…and the early loser is peas. M knows all the good stuff and I kind of just wing it with common sense. Most of the time she ends up proving me wrong and I know it gets on her nerves. She is great and is always patient and puts up with me.
