Working around the house

“Everybody’s working for the weekend”
-Josh Gracin

Man getting the house ready for some kids is way more work that I expected. Fortunately, something motivates me to finish things that have been on my to-do list forever. Let’s see, I have gotten a handle on the yard work. M’s been helping with that, even though she shouldn’t be doing some of things she is. But she’s like me and doesn’t listen and is stubborn but I guess that’s part of the reason I married her to begin with.

I love the trees in our yard and certainly won’t cut them down to spite the lady who lives behind us, don’t get me started on her, but the leaves are killing me. I must have filled 12 lawn and leaves bags to this point. Then we cut down a large branch that was hanging over the fence, but that was for the benefit of our neighbor and not the lady behind us. Still trying to saw that log up by hand and need to get that done soon.

Besides the sticks still left in the backyard, most of the yard work is done. Now we started to move inside and work on the Nursery has begun.

In and out in 15minutes

“Well, time is on my side, yes it is
Time is on my side, yes it is”
-Rolling Stones

It’s been awhile since I last put an entry in so I am going back and adding some updates to where we have been and where we are going.

So M’s appointment was on 10/12 at Riverside. Not so thrilled about Riverside as you have to pay to park and that’s not cool when we aren’t coming from home. So we met nearby and rode in together. I know some may think it’s cheap to do that but we got twins on the way and should be paying for parking, twice.

So we get there and we are late, if you know my wife and I then you know we have differing views on what counts as on time. Me, on time is 5 minutes early and for her 15 minutes after we were supposed to be there is on time. So I should have known this was going to be bad from the start. We get to the office and wait about 5 minutes to check in. Why so long you should ask? Well doesn’t everyone wait 5 minutes to check in when there is no one else in the waiting room except the other girl at the check in desk playing 2000 questions? Apparently, 20 questions weren’t good enough for her. So they check us in and M’s off to the bathroom and I am off to the room. The nurse puts me is a room with no Ultrasound machine and I looked puzzled. She then comes back and moves me to another room as she forgot we were having twins.

M comes in, in comes the doctor filling in while M’s is on vacation, some jelly is squirted on the belly and we are out the door and back to the car. Sounds fast, well that’s how it was. We asked questions, she told us to ask our regular doctor. No pictures, one heartbeat and half assed appointment. As you can tell I am very bitter, most likely because I was really looking forward to seeing the tots this time. I was hoping for more pictures and I really felt let down. Oh well, we told ourselves that the next one is the one where we get to find out if they are boys, girls, aliens or one of each….so we thought.

The Name Game and M's Bday

"And I won't tell no one your name
And I won't tell em your name"

-Goo Goo Dolls

Work has been really busy for the last week or so. We are trying to get everything set up before anything happens on 01/01/07 and it keeps us busy. It almost seems like there is no end in sight when you are still learning all the ins and outs of the job.

So this past Saturday was M’s birthday. She had fun at the Japanese Steakhouse but felt the evening ended a little too early. She was really happy when the Japanese Papaw recognized her. She has only been celebrating her birthday there for at least the last 15 years. Once again for the 6th straight year I was called monkey boy. Not sure why but the man calls me monkey boy and gives me the cymbals to play during the song. Everyone has a good laugh and we take the picture.

We headed out to Gallery hop and it was ok. It was too quick. I felt bad because I could tell M wanted to stay out later because she had some energy, but with the tots she runs out of gas quickly. One moment she’ll be doing great and then she crashes. It’s really weird and I will never understand it because I don’t have two kids growing in my belly. Either way I tried to make it up to her by making her breakfast on Sunday morning.

After that we did some yard work and headed to her Mom’s for dinner. Dinner was great and her mom made the funniest joke I think I have ever heard her make. Maybe it was my type of humor but we were talking about the developments of the tots and they are developing finger prints. She says that thanks to me they are developing fingers prints and a criminal record. Still makes me chuckle. We were able to get the extra couch out of the house so we have some space to work on the nursery.

Every time we go over there, everyone wants to suggest names for the tots. My personal feeling is I want the names to be kept a secret until they are born. I just feel like there are one or two things through this whole journey I would like to keep for ourselves. The “names” happen to be my biggest thing. Everyone knew when we were going to take our first test and there was list of people we had to call. I just felt like it wasn’t as special that everyone knew. I want to keep some things personal and I fear that if we tell people the names early, then they will tell us they don’t like the name or they wanted us to name them something else. On the other hand, you introduce the little ones and their names, no one in their right mind will say they babies are beautiful but I don’t like the names.

Just my thought and how I feel.
